The K-9 Unit’s main responsibility is to support field units in apprehending criminals and detecting concealed dangerous drugs and narcotics. The K-9’s are also trained in tracking. This training allows the K-9 to be used to locate missing and lost persons as well as assist in crowd control. The agency currently has three dual-purpose K-9’s plus two bloodhounds specifically used for tracking. Each team is highly trained. The deputies and their K-9 partners have received hundreds of hours of specialized training to insure that they possess the best skills to perform their assigned duties. The K-9 unit is assigned to the entire county to be available to assist when a k9 is or may be needed and to allow the unit the flexibility to work the entire county to locate and deter criminal activity.
