IMPERSONATING A SHERIFF’S DEPUTY
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several reports of a male claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The male is identifying himself as Lt. Jonathan Baxley, badge number 8836, with the Warrant Unit.
The male is telling the person on the phone that he has a warrant for a family member for Failure to Appear in Court on a speeding ticket on Ga. 400. The male will usually identify the name of a family member. The male will end the conversation by telling the person that if the matter is not cleared up in 30 minutes an arrest will be made. The male also adds that this can be taken care of by paying $362.00 on the phone through a debit or credit card.
This is a phone scam that has been taking place in other areas of metro Atlanta in the past 6 week. Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office does not have anyone by the name of Jonathan Baxley employed by us. If you are contacted by this person please call our non-emergency phone number to file a report at 770-781-3087 or Criminal Investigations Division Investigator Ben Norton at 770-781-3071.
