ONE PERSON DIES IN FORSYTH COUNTY COLLISION

A Forsyth County woman was killed in a three-vehicle collision involving a school bus on Ga. Hwy. 9 in Forsyth County on Thursday afternoon.

According to Deputy First Class Michael Nelson of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Lesia Elaine Bennett, 43, of Berry Court in Cumming, was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital, Forsyth after being transported there from the crash.

The collision occurred at approximately 4:48 p.m. at the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 9 and North Old Atlanta Road. According to DFC Nelson, Antonio Aguilera Mora, 17, of Park Place, Cumming was traveling southbound on Ga. Hwy. 9 in a 2004 Nissan Titan. The 2000 Mercury Mountaineer that was being driven by Bennett was traveling eastbound on North Old Atlanta Road. The Forsyth County School bus, being driven by Sheila Trowell, 46, of Kelly Mill Road, Cumming, was stopped on Ga. Hwy. 9 waiting at a traffic light to make a left turn onto North Old Atlanta Road. A collision occurred between the vehicles driven by Mora and Bennett in the intersection on Ga. Hwy. 9, causing the Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Bennett, to then collide with the front passenger side of the school bus.

Mora was transported to Northside Hospital, Forsyth where he was treated and released. According to DFC Nelson, Bennett was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision. Mora was wearing a seatbelt.

The collision closed Ga. Hwy. 9 at North Old Atlanta Road for approximately two hours. The roadway reopened at 6:50 p.m.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. No charges have been filed.
