WHAT is Crime Stoppers? Crime Stoppers is the most successful, fastest growing anti-crime program in the country. Crime Stoppers was founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976 and since that time over 800 programs have been established throughout North America. Since Crime Stoppers programs have been in operation, over 303,000 cases have been solved.
WHY does Crime Stoppers work? Crime Stoppers is designed to combat two major problems of law enforcement:
(1) Citizens are afraid of criminal retaliation if they cooperate with police during an investigation. To combat this fear, Crime Stoppers has established a system whereby callers can remain totally anonymous.
(2) Citizens have an overall attitude of apathy. To combat this problem, Crime Stoppers is offering cash rewards of up to $1,000 to citizens whose calls lead to the arrests of crime offenders.
WHO is involved with Crime Stoppers? Our local Crime Stoppers program began in Forsyth County in the fall of 1997. This program came into existence to assist local law enforcement in focusing on crime problems in the immediate Forsyth County area.
