June 22, 2005 Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office Major Tom Wilson has received the national designation of
Certified Jail Manager through the Jail Manager Certification Commission (JMCC)
by authority of the American Jail Association (AJA), Sheriff Ted Paxton
announced today. Major Wilson is one of only 347 jail professionals nationwide to have achieved this designation. Only six other persons in Georgia have received this designation. This certification has been achieved through the successful completion of a rigid work-related background application and an intensive four-hour written examination prepared jointly by the JMCC and AJA. Certification in jail management is a demonstration of competency and professionalism in the field. The jail manager’s certification documents the mastery of a strong level of knowledge in the specialty, and demonstrates continuing education and growth. Major Wilson began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in the Adult Detention Center in February, 1994 and has held successive positions of Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, Captain and Major. He was named Detention Division Commander (Jail Administrator) in December, 1998, a position he holds today. Major Wilson is a professional member of the American Jail Association and the Georgia Jail Association. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and has an extensive number of hours in detention and corrections-based training. He has a career total of over 1,100 hours of career-related training. “Major Wilson is a tremendous asset to the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Ted Paxton. “We’re very proud of his career accomplishments. He is a true professional in every aspect of his job,” Paxton added.
