The
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is introducing a book
designed to help parents make sure their children do not
become victims of internet predators, Sheriff Ted Paxton
announced today.
The
17-page book was paid for entirely with “seized funds”,
which are funds awarded to the Sheriff’s Office primarily
from persons convicted of drug offenses, details the risks
involved in parents allowing their children unrestricted
access to the internet and cell phones. It features fun,
educational exercises that children up through their teen
years can use to become aware of online risks. The book
also features nine cartoons designed to dramatically, yet
humorously, highlight the importance of internet safety.
The
book, “Internet & Cell Phone Safety for Your Kids”, will be
provided to parents free of charge, Sheriff Paxton said.
“We will have supplies available for the public at our North
and South Precincts, and at the receptionist’s office in the
Forsyth County Jail,” he added. In addition, anyone not
able to come to one of the offices to pick up a copy may
call (678) 513-5842 or email
fahuggins@forsythco.com and request a free copy of
the book. “We will also make the book available at schools
and day care centers if they will let us know how many
copies they need,” Sheriff Paxton said.
Once the child completes working through the book, there is
an eight-point “Kid’s Safety Pledge” on the last page that
the child should read and sign.
