The Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club recently donated K-9 body armor to law enforcement agencies located in the counties it serves. Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is the recipient of two sets.
Pictured above are (l-r) Sheriff Ted Paxton, Deputy Rick Evans with Samson, Kay Allred, President of the Kennel Club, Sharon Ero, Kennel Club board member and Cpl. Scotty Wilson with Baron.
Other county law enforcement agencies receiving vests from the Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club are Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, City of Jasper Police Dept. and Dawson County Sheriff’s Office. A total of six vests were donated.
This body armor is designed to withstand impact from bullets and other projectiles. It may very well save a K-9’s life because they are often the very first law enforcement to enter a business or dwelling in search of perpetrators, such as burglars.
The Kennel Club raised the funds for the body armor by putting on a number of events, including dog shows and various educational and obedience classes.
“We’re very grateful to the Club for the donations,” said Sheriff Ted Paxton. “This armor is very expensive and it’s great to see public and private parties working together for the betterment of our community.”
The Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club of Georgia, Inc. is based in Cumming but actually serves five surrounding counties. Established in 1988 as an all-breed AKC dog club, the Club is licensed by the American Kennel Club. It is licensed to hold pointed conformation and obedience events to all breeds of purebred dogs. Its members also provide and promote canine education to the general community.
