Forsyth County Deputy Sheriff Jason Nipper was recently honored by winning the “Top Gun” award at ceremonies marking his graduation from the Northeast Georgia Police Academy Basic Mandate School. Nipper received his award at graduation ceremonies this past Friday night.
Part of the 400-hour Basic Mandate School consists of “Firearms Week”, during which the students are taught skills in the use and care of various firearms. The week concludes with a “Qualifying Event” during which each student must shoot a handgun at various target distances. The distances vary between three and 25 yards.
In order to pass this skills test, each student must shoot a minimum score of 80%. Nipper outscored his 30 classmates by shooting a perfect score - 100%. He placed every shot perfectly in the target.
In winning the award, Nipper joins an elite group of students in the Academy’s 31-year history to shoot a perfect score of 100 during the week of firearms training.
