Visitors to Lake Lanier this summer will see a new addition to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office
Marine Patrol Unit. The unit recently purchased and put into service a brand new 22’ Pro Sports
center console boat.
The new boat replaces an aging fleet, one of which was older than some of the deputies working
on it.
Powered by a 200 horsepower Yamaha engine, the boat and crew are capable of quickly
responding to an emergency anywhere on the lake. All deputies working in this unit are certified
First Responders and carry a complete set of first aid equipment for any type of emergency.
In addition to emergency responses, the Marine Patrol Unit will be assisting Georgia Department of
Natural Resources officers in enforcing boating regulations. Officers will be paying special
attention to persons "Boating Under The Influence" and will be checking for life vests and other
safety violations.
Forsyth County, with over 250 miles of shoreline on the 38,000 acre lake, is the only County
bordering the lake with a Marine Patrol. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has a "mutual aid
agreement" with Dawson, Gwinnett and Hall counties to assist them with any lake emergency. All
three of those counties have land bordering the lake.
