Monday, May 13, 2002
Two persons were injured, both critically, in separate Forsyth County vehicle
accidents this past weekend.
The first occurred early Friday evening shortly after 8 p.m. A 1999 Ford F350 truck
belonging to Fulton County Water Department was northbound on GA 400 at Jot
Em Down Road when it collided with a 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck. The driver of
the F350 was identified as Bailey Eugene Lee, 61, of Ballground, GA. Lee was not
injured. The driver of the Chevrolet, James Daniel Thomason, 54, of Cumming, was
flown by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center. Thomason was travelling west on Jot
Em Down Road when the accident occurred. At the time of this release, Thomason
is reported to be in critical but stable condition. No charges have been filed,
pending completion of an investigation of the accident by Forsyth County Sheriff’s
Office Traffic Specialists.
The second accident occurred at 6 p.m. Sunday evening on Chattahoochee Road
near Shady Grove Road. A 1980 Nissan
operated by David Lee Mason, 27, of Cumming left the road, collided with two trees
and a fire hydrant, then burst into flames. Mason was ejected from the vehicle and
suffered severe head injuries. He was flown by helicopter to North Fulton Regional
Medical Center. At last report, Mason is in very critical condition in the Critical Care
Unit. Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialists are conducting an
investigation into the cause of this accident.
Photos are of Mr. Mason’s vehicle.
