Tuesday, May 21, 2002 A month-long investigation by Forsyth County investigators culminated in the arrest of four persons last Friday on multiple drug charges. The arrests, which followed an all-day search of two Forsyth County residences on Dahlonega Highway, began at 5:30 a.m. and ended at 8 p.m. that evening. Investigators were assisted by Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. when the warrants were served, said Capt. Ron Freeman, Criminal Investigation Unit’s Commander. The residences are located at 4350 and 4346 Dahlonega Highway. Arrested were Daniel Keith Karlin, 38, Nora Jones, 37, Susan Annette Hamilton, 39 and Phillip Lamar Smallwood, 34. With the exception of Smallwood, who is a Dawson County resident, all those arrested are residents of Forsyth County. Karlin was charged with Manufacturing Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and Conspiracy to Sell Methamphetamine. Jones, who was arrested at the residence with Karlin, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. Hamilton drove up to the scene during the day. A search of her vehicle resulted in her arrest on a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. Smallwood arrived at the residence a short time later and was charged with Possession of Marijuana. He also has outstanding warrants in Forsyth and Dawson Counties. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms accompanied Forsyth County officers on the raid. "We also recovered suspected machine gun parts, " said Sheriff Ted Paxton. "These have been sent to B.A.T.F. for examination. If they are proven to be machine gun parts, federal charges could follow." |
