Jordan gives his "Angel" a hug

Friday June 7, 2002

It was just a few months that Forsyth County Deputy Sheriff Cpl. James “Juicy” White met 9 year-old Jordan Mauldin during a routine traffic stop. One of the first things Cpl. White noticed was that Jordan did not have his seat belt fastened.

Cpl. White used this opportunity to educate Jordan on why he should always “fasten up”, explaining that if Jordan were ever in a wreck, he could be seriously injured or killed if he didn’t “buckle up”. Jordan’s mother stated that they always had a hard time with Jordan, because he just didn’t want to wear a seat belt.

Fortunately, Jordan took Cpl. White’s advice to heart and started wearing his seat belt. This past Mothers Day, Jordan was riding in a car driven by his grandmother when they were in a wreck. Although Jordan suffered a broken right leg in the collision, emergency personnel told him that had he not been wearing his seat belt he would probably not have survived the wreck.

Recently, Jordan and his family came to our Uniform Patrol Headquarters and honored Cpl. White as Jordan’s “Angel”. Jordan’s mother, Yvonne Garner of Suches, GA, said that they think all of our officers are the greatest, because of one of them, she still has her son.
