An Alpharetta man was critically injured late yesterday in a spectacular wreck on Hwy. 9 at Castleberry Road.

According to Forsyth County Traffic Specialist Anthony Palacios, Michael William Vogel, 23, of Aurelia Trace in Alpharetta, was northbound on Atlanta Road (Hwy 9) when he attempted a left turn into the path of an oncoming car. Vogel was driving a 1994 Honda Civic, which was completely destroyed in the crash. The driver of the second car was identified by Palacios as Francisco Javier Guia, 32, of Lawrenceville. Guia was driving a 1989 Nissan Sentra. The accident occurred at 4:15 p.m.

Vogel was transported by ambulance to North Fulton Regional Medical Center in Alpharetta where he remains in critical condition in their intensive care unit. No charges have been filed, pending completion of the investigation, Palacios said.
