SHERIFF'S OFFICE RECEIVES COMMENDATIONS FOR EXTRA PATROLS ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT

November 05, 2002

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has received a number of calls and compliments for the added neighborhood patrols we provided on Halloween night. Deputies from the agency were assigned to various zones throughout the county, concentrating on subdivisions where we expected large number of children "trick or treating". Deputies were provided with items to give to children, including candy and Junior Deputy badges.

Everywhere they went, deputies were met with a warm welcome from parents and children. One such message from Sweetbriar Subdivision arrived via email from our web site:

I want to offer my Thanks to the officer who drove through the Sweetbriar Subdivision on Halloween night. He stopped to talk to groups of parents and children as we went door-to-door, giving safety reminders to our children, handing out treat bags full of candy, and really helped to make the night special for the children he spoke to.

I wish I had gotten his name, but hopefully there is some record within the department of who this officer was. If so, please pass along my thanks. He did a fantastic job of making Halloween more enjoyable and safe for our kids.

Other than a few reports of minor vandalism, the evening passed without any major incidents. No injuries to children were reported.
