The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy is a free 11 week course that meets from 7 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on consecutive Mondays or Wednesdays, depending on the class.

The Academy is open to all Forsyth County residents, employees, and business owners age 21 and over.

The Academy provides students with hands-on training and law enforcement knowledge in a friendly environment.

The course is run by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and closely follows the actual hands-on training that deputies undergo. All instructors in this program are Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office employees.   Topics include Constitutional law, conducting traffic stops, judgmental use of force, K9 and S.W.A.T. demonstrations, ride-alongs with deputies and much, much more.

Our goal is to build a closer bond with the citizens and business owners of Forsyth County through communication and education.  Take it from former students of the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy:

“What a fantastic class!  I really have gained a great deal from all classes and ride-alongs—increased respect for law enforcement.”  Session 07-05

“I enjoyed all of the classes.  This experience has provided me with a much greater appreciation of the Sheriff’s Office’s important role in Forsyth County.”

Session 07-06

“Enjoyed the ride alongs tremendously.  It was interesting to observe from ‘the other side’.”  Session 09-12

“Excellent hands-on presentation(s).  This program helps to dispel the misconceptions garnered by the reality shows on TV.  And it was FUN!”  Session 09-12
