South Precinct Deputy of the Month Named

Forsyth County Deputy Sheriff Steven Honn has been named the South Precinct’s Deputy of the Month for May, 2010, South Precinct Commander Captain Ron Freeman announced today.

Deputy Honn, who was employed with the Sheriff’s Office in August, 2008 was selected among his peers for the great initiative he shows in being a proactive deputy.

According to Captain Freeman, not only did Deputy Honn make several arrests for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and illegal drugs possession, but two citizens contacted the Sheriff’s Office via email to compliment him on the quality of his work.

In the first case, a female citizen who was home alone with her children told how Deputy Honn had responded to a burglar alarm at her home.  Not only did Deputy Honn verify that the alarm was false, but according to the citizen he went “above and beyond what he needed to do” to make sure that the home was totally secure.

In the second case, Deputy Honn conducted a traffic stop on what he suspected was someone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.   As it turned out, the female driver was just sleepy from having been up for a long time and attending a graduation dinner.   She wrote that Deputy Honn was, “kind, yet firm and expressed concern for her safety”.  She also added that he acted with professionalism.  She concluded by stating that her encounter with Deputy Honn was actually, “God’s answer to her prayers for help because it woke her up and helped her get home safely”.

North Precinct Deputy of the Month Named

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff Robin Regan has been selected as the North Precinct’s Deputy of the Month for May, 2010, North Precinct Commander Mark Flowers announced today.

Deputy Regan, who was employed by the Sheriff’s Office in February, 2008, was selected for this special recognition in part because he was able to locate the girlfriend of an escapee from the Forsyth County Adult Detention Center.  “Because of your observational skills and quick actions, you were able to locate and bring the girlfriend in for questioning,” Capt. Flowers wrote.  As a result of this, the escapee was soon captured and returned to jail.

According to Capt. Flowers, “Deputy Regan’s contributions to the Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division and the North Precinct have been invaluable”.

Alleged Child Biter Arrested Again

Gordon Kent Nelson, the man who was arrested in May and charged with two misdemeanor battery counts for allegedly biting two young girls, has been arrested again, this time on a felony charge, Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton announced today.

Nelson, age 44, was arrested yesterday following an alleged confrontation on June 9 with the family of his first victim at a Wal-Mart store at 5455 Atlanta Highway in Alpharetta.  He is charged with one felony count of Aggravated Stalking, Sheriff Paxton said.

According to the complaint filed with the Sheriff’s Office, the eight year-old female victim was with her mother and father in the check-out line at Wal-Mart when Nelson entered the store.  When they finished checking out and left the store, Nelson allegedly followed them to the parking lot. The victim’s father stated that as they attempted to leave the parking lot Nelson followed them in his vehicle and blew kisses at them.  A verbal argument between the two men followed.  Nelson left the scene when the girl’s father advised Nelson they were calling authorities.

At the time of his arrest in May, Nelson was charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple battery.   He allegedly bit two 8 year-old girls in separate incidents.  As a condition of his bonds in both incidents, Nelson was not to have any contact with the victims or their families.

Nelson is being held in the Forsyth County Adult Detention Center pending his first court appearance.
