Teen "Outstanding Citizen" Recognized by Sheriff's Office

A 16 year-old junior at Forsyth Central High School is the latest Forsyth County citizen to be recognized by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office as an “Outstanding Citizen,” Sheriff Ted Paxton announced today.

The teen, Nicholas “Nic” Statham, was presented with an “Outstanding Citizen” certificate yesterday by Sheriff Paxton, to recognize the actions he took in June which resulted in the arrest of a burglar.

On the morning of June 22, Nic was asleep at his home when he heard a burglar breaking into his home on Castleberry Road.  Nic ran into his parents’ bedroom and grabbed a portable telephone and left the house.  As he exited the house he called 911.  He observed the burglar leaving the home with a pillow case filled with property stolen from Nic’s home.  Nic was able to furnish the 911 operator with a good description of the burglar’s car and license tag number.

Within minutes, the burglar was spotted by deputies on Atlanta Highway and taken into custody following a short chase.  As it turns out, the burglar had charges pending against him in other jurisdictions.

“Nic’s swift and decisive actions are the reasons another bad guy is off the streets today,” Sheriff Paxton said.  “He did exactly the right thing by leaving his house and calling 911.”  “We are very proud of him,” the Sheriff added.
