The program, which is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is designed to prevent pill abuse and theft. This will be accomplished by encouraging the public to go to designated locations and turn in their unwanted and expired prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous, Sheriff Paxton said.
“Abuse of prescription medicine is a growing problem in nearly all age groups,” the Sheriff said. “Families’ medicine cabinets are one of the major sources of drugs that young people take,” he added. “We hope that this program will make a huge dent in that problem,” Sheriff Paxton said.
The Sheriff’s Office will have personnel at our North and South Precincts on Saturday, September 25, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. to collect the prescription drugs. No questions will be asked of the persons turning in the drugs and you can remain totally anonymous.
