Cumming Resident Injured in GA 400 Wreck

A 75 year-old Cumming resident was seriously injured yesterday when her car and a dump truck collided on GA 400 at Martin Road.

According to Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Investigator Corporal Bill Loring, Kathryn Day Free of Oak Grove Valley Road in Cumming was traveling eastbound on Martin Road when she pulled into the path of a dump truck that was northbound on GA 400. Free’s car was struck broadside on the passenger side by the dump truck, which was driven by Bradford David Bruce, also of Cumming.

Free was trapped in her vehicle for about 30 minutes while firefighters worked to extricate her. She was flown by helicopter to North Fulton Hospital. At last report she was in serious condition. Bruce was not injured.

Cpl. Loring said no charges have been filed, pending completion of the investigation. The accident was witnessed by two Sheriff’s Office Deputies who were at the intersection when the wreck occurred.

This is the eighth wreck at this intersection since January 1st.
