South Precinct Deputy of the Month Named

Deputy First Class Eric Weaver has been selected as the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office South Precinct “Deputy of the Month” for June 2011, Capt. Ron Freeman, South Precinct Commander, announced recently.

On June 11, 2011, the Sheriff’s Office received several reports of car windows being broken at Sharon Springs Park. While other deputies were responding to these thefts, DFC Weaver went to the Big Creek Greenway parking area on Bethelview Road to see if there had been any similar crimes.

Captain Freeman stated that when DFC Weaver entered the parking area, he noticed a Jeep Liberty in the back of the parking area with three occupants. The Jeep immediately left the parking area and DFC Weaver was able to acquire enough probable cause to conduct a traffic stop on the Jeep.

When interviewing the three occupants, their stories were inconsistent and DFC Weaver subsequently performed a search of the vehicle where he discovered a tiny piece of glass from a vehicle window. DFC Weaver didn’t have enough probable cause to make an arrest at that time, but concluded that the suspects were probably involved in entering autos.

Although DFC Weaver was unable to link them to the earlier cases at Sharon Springs Park, the information he obtained on the traffic stop about the three occupants and their vehicle was used by the investigators to link them to checks being cashed in Newnan which were stolen from one of the vehicles at Sharon Springs Park.

“In fact, had it not been for DFC Weaver’s intuition and quick action, the fraudulent activity associated with our victims would have never been tied to these suspects,” added Capt. Freeman.

DFC Weaver has been employed with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office since October 2006.

During the year, each Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Precinct recognizes a Deputy of the Month. At the end of each year, a Deputy of the Year is selected from the 12 monthly award winners.
