No Landline Phone

If you do not have a landline phone at your residence, you will not receive automatic emergency alerts for your neighborhood/residential area. You also will not be able to call 911 in the event of an emergency, unless you have cellular phone service or internet phone service of some sort, such as VoIP (Voice over IP): Vonage, MagicJack, Ooma, NetTalk, etc.

If you elect not to have a landlne phone, please sit down and prepare an emergency plan to discuss with any children, teens, and other adults in the residence, so everyone is prepared if an emergency strikes. This plan could be as simple as instructing them to retreat to a trusted neighbors home, or where to access a cellular phone & teaching them how to make an emergency call with it. If you elect to involve someone else, such as a neighbor, please be sure to let them know your plan as well.

Residents are encouraged to keep their Emergency Contact Information updated on any cellular and/or VoIP phone service subscription(s) they have. Emergency service calling was a problem for VoIP providers years ago, but a solution was developed by the industry in recent years in the form of E911, or Enhanced 911. Most VoIP phone services include this E911 service. When you sign up for one of these services, you must specify an address for 911 service. This sets up E911, which relays the location that the call is coming from, to the emergency operator, so they may dispatch first responders more quickly. This 911 service address/information should be updated regularly, in the event an emergency arises at your location.
