Special Victims Unit (SVU)
The mission of the Special Victims Unit is to provide comprehensive investigative resources to incidents of criminal activity involving crimes against persons, with special emphasis on women. This unit is comprised of specially trained investigators with extensive training and experience in investigations of child abuse, sexual assaults and domestic violence.
Each investigator works seamlessly with a host of multi-jurisdictional partners to include the District Attorney’s Office, the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, the Child Advocacy Center and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at Northside-Forsyth Hospital. Investigations are undertaken with a multi-disciplined team approach with our partner resources allowing SVU investigators to insure a complete and thorough investigation of all allegations. The unit also has primary responsibility of investigation of crimes committed against senior citizens.
As a result of this unit’s dedication, services to victims have been greatly increased with this approach and with the addition of a Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Advocate. Special Victims Unit investigators also maintain a registry of Registered Sex Offenders living within Forsyth County and insure active compliance with applicable reporting laws of these individuals.
