On the left is DFC Brandon Moore riding "Star", and on the right is Cpl. Eric Silveus riding "Mic". The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit was introduced in April 2001. Designed to supplement our other law enforcement responsibilities, this Unit has proved itself to be an integral part of our team. During the summer and on holiday weekends, the Mounted Patrol Unit can be seen patrolling one of the many parks we have on Lake Lanier. At other times they are used as needed around the County. The horses and their riders can negotiate steep, wooded terrain in much less time than an officer on foot patrol. In addition, our Mounted Patrol Unit has worked on search and rescue missions, school functions, parades and crowd control. They are regularly seen at special events throughout the county and draw large crowds of admirers and fans. The Mounted Patrol Unit was organized at no cost to the taxpayers of Forsyth County, thanks in large part to the generosity of citizens who made this Unit possible through donations of money and equipment. The horses are stabled at no cost to taxpayers at the Polo Fields.
