The H.E.A.T Unit (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) and the D.U.I. Task Force Unit fall under the command of the Special Operations Division. Both units work hard on a daily basis to combat impaired driving, no seatbelt violators, speeding violators and aggressive drivers.
In 2004 the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a H.E.A.T. Grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The H.E.A.T. Unit is composed of three deputies who are highly trained in all aspects of traffic law and impaired drivers. The H.E.A.T. program is designed to educate the public and enforce laws related to impaired and aggressive driving. Each officer is armed with materials to educate Georgia citizens about laws related to aggressive and impaired driving. Education and enforcement must go hand in hand if we are to be successful in reducing the number of crashes, fatalities and injuries on Georgia roadways. The H.E.A.T. Unit teaches impaired driving classes to students and adults monthly in the P.R.I.D.E program (Parents Reducing Incidents of Driver Error). This is a program that combines the parents and the teen driver together in a class to help reduce teen driving error and in turn reduce teen crashes, fatalities and injuries.
Over the past several years, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has received several national and state Traffic Enforcement Awards. Below are the most recent awards:
- G.O.H.S. 2007 Category 6 1ST Place Winner
