PET ADOPTION & RESOURCE CENTER

As the only open admission shelter for Forsyth County, we are dedicated to rescuing, reuniting and rehoming animals. We do not turn away any animal in need, regardless of breed, age, medical condition or temperament. The Pet Adoption and Resource Center (PARC) provides housing, care and medical treatment to domestic stray, lost, abandoned, sick, injured and surrendered animals.

ADOPT A PET

We consider ourselves match-makers as we strive to help you choose the pet that’s right for you and your family. Our staff works diligently to learn as much as we can about our adoption animals’ likes, dislikes, quirks and all-around personalities.

ADOPTION PROCESS

  1. Browse adoptable pets online. Search our listings of adoptable pets HERE!

  2. Apply to adopt. Fill out an adoption profile form:

  3. Meet your new best friend. The Pet Resource Center is open for adoptions and meet-and-greets from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Our teams of experts will be available to answer any questions you may have about the animal’s needs and personality.

  4. Finalize the adoption. Once your application has been approved and the adoption fees paid, you are free to take home your new pet and begin your journey together!

Once the form is filled out in its entirety, please email your profile to SOPARC@forsythco.com, and an adoption counselor will contact you to discuss the next steps in the adoption process. You may also bring the form with you when you visit the shelter.

A note regarding adoptions: All adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. The Forsyth County Pet Adoption and Resource Center does not hold animals for adoption. We reserve the right to refuse any adoption for any reason.

ADOPTION FEES

The adoption fee is $85. All cats and kittens are two (2) for $85.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS

To adopt a pet, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old with a valid picture ID.

  • Submit an adoption profile form and meet with an adoption counselor.

YOUR PET'S HEALTH

All animals are medically evaluated prior to being placed for adoption, where they receive the following:

  • Medical exam

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations (12 weeks and older receive a rabies vaccination)

  • Spay/neuter surgery

  • Microchip

  • Flea/tick prevention

  • Heartworm test and prevention (dogs)

We currently do not combo test our felines for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). We do offer combo testing for our adoptable felines for a non-refundable fee of $35 at the expense of the adopter. Felines have to be three months of age or older for a combo test to be completed at our facility.
